As a parent of a young autistic child, you may be wondering how you can support them to connect and grow.

The Hanen More Than Words program is specifically designed for parents of autistic children aged 5 and under who experience communication difficulties.

By focussing on your child’s interests and utilising your family’s natural day-to-day life, the Hanen More Than Words program can help you learn:

  1. What motivates your child to communicate
  2. How to use your knowledge about your child to set appropriate and realistic goals
  3. How to make interactions with your child last longer
  4. Tips for using pictures and print to help your child’s understanding
  5. Strategies for how to talk so that your child understands you
  6. Strategies for developing your child’s play skills
  7. Ways to help your child make friends

More Than Words was developed by expert speech-language pathologists and is grounded in extensive research. The program is evidence-based, meaning that it has been shown in multiple studies to improve the social communication skills of young autistic children.

The program is NDIS approved.

Over a 13-week period, you will be guided through the Hanen More Than Words program, and provided with practical strategies you can use in everyday situations.

The program includes the following online sessions:

  • 8 training sessions for parents in small, personalised groups
  • A pre-program consultation for you and your child
  • Three individual feedback sessions for you and your child where you are videotaped while practicing strategies to help your child achieve specific communication goals. You and the speech pathologist will watch the videotaped interaction to “see” what’s helping your child and what you can modify to help even more.
