A Growing Understanding's Approach to Speech Pathology

At A Growing Understanding Speech Pathology, our approach focuses on partnering with families to provide high-quality, evidence-based support. As an NDIS-registered provider, we’re committed to helping families access the right speech pathology services with clarity, care and confidence.
Our Approach

Our approach is designed to ensure children receive the support they need, when they need it, while families feel informed, confident, and supported every step of the way.

As a parent or carer, it’s completely normal not to have all the answers. At A Growing Understanding Speech Pathology, our role is to guide you through your family’s speech pathology journey with clarity, care, and confidence. As an NDIS-registered provider specialising exclusively in paediatric speech pathology, we offer focused, evidence-based support tailored to your child’s unique needs.

We believe progress happens best through partnership. While children work toward their communication goals during therapy sessions, we also support parents, carers, and educators by building their knowledge, skills, and confidence. This ensures your child is supported not just in therapy, but across home, school, and everyday life.

That’s why family involvement sits at the heart of our practice and is guided by our Three ‘E’s of Family Growth:

Engagement
Encouragement
Empowerment

By integrating these principles, we deliver a supportive service that not only helps your child thrive during therapy but also equips you with the skills and confidence to nurture their development at home and beyond.

We believe that early intervention, guided by a family-centred and ‘Support and See’ approach, is essential for unlocking each child’s unique potential. Our process is built on collaboration with families, empowering both children and those who support them. Together, we:

  • Investigate, diagnose, and support communication and feeding development through an evidence-based framework.
  • Develop a tailored speech pathology plan that aligns with your child’s strengths, needs, and your family’s goals.
  • Deliver services that not only enhance communication and feeding skills but also adapt everyday environments to highlight your child’s abilities.
  • Provide parents, carers, and educators with practical strategies and confidence to support your child at home, in school, and beyond.
A child’s growth is founded in understanding… their understanding of the world in which they live and how they connect with it. By deepening our collective understanding – of our children, our families, and our communities – we create a supportive network that helps every child thrive.

Choose the Next Step That Feels Right for Your Family

We understand that families are at different stages. Some prefer to talk things through first, while others feel ready to book an appointment. Both options are available.

Service Guided by CARE
Everything in Life Needs a Strong Support System to Grow

Every child and family deserves a strong foundation to grow and flourish. Just as a plant relies on deep, healthy roots, a child’s communication skills are nurtured by understanding, support, and care.

Our approach is built on our core values of CARE: Celebration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence, and Care – the pillars that guide the support and services we provide.

We celebrate each child’s unique strengths and achievements, recognising that every milestone is a reason to cheer. We hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards, ensuring that our practices and recommendations are both evidence-based and effective. We treat every family, professional, educator, and colleague with respect; knowing that collaboration is key to a thriving support system. We strive for excellence in all that we do, continually refining our services to ensure they meet your needs. And, most importantly, we care deeply about the people we support, offering a warm, supportive environment where your child’s growth in communication, language, and feeding is nurtured every step of the way.

Our speech pathology services are about ‘growing understanding’ to facilitate a high standard of care across our profession.

Our commitment to our values of CARE means that we not only provide exceptional speech pathology services but also empower families to build a strong support system that helps every child reach their full potential. Essentially, we are a place for everyone to grow and flourish in their own way, with the right support.

Where Your Family Belongs

At A Growing Understanding Speech Pathology, we believe every family deserves to feel genuinely welcome from the moment they arrive. We know that parenting young children can be busy and demanding, which is why our centres are thoughtfully designed to be accessible, inclusive, and supportive spaces where children and families can feel comfortable, safe, and at ease.

Located in Warners Bay (Lake Macquarie) and Adamstown (Newcastle), our centres are more than therapy rooms. They are warm, vibrant environments filled with carefully selected books, toys, games, and resources that invite curiosity, play, and connection. Every space is designed to support learning while remaining calm, welcoming, and engaging.

Above all, we are committed to creating environments where every family feels valued, respected, and empowered. A Growing Understanding is a place where children can be themselves and families feel a true sense of belonging.

Our Story

A Growing Understanding Speech Pathology was founded by Lauren Haskins, a dedicated mother of two with a passion for building children’s confidence in communication. Driven by her own experiences and a desire to extend her professional reach, Lauren set out to create a private paediatric practice that provides truly individualised speech pathology services for children and their families across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, and the Hunter Region.

From the very beginning, Lauren envisioned a professional yet friendly practice that supports not only children but also parents, carers, and fellow clinicians. Today, as an NDIS-registered service, we are proud to offer accessible, evidence-based care that meets the needs of our diverse community. We are committed to nurturing a welcoming environment where every family feels supported and valued.

Supported by a passionate team of speech pathologists, our practice focuses on uncovering each child’s unique interests and strengths. We use these insights to develop tailored programs that empower children to thrive in communication and feeding, ensuring that our services are as inclusive and comprehensive as they are effective.
