About Lauren Haskins
Lauren is the Practice Director of A Growing Understanding Speech Pathology. She established the business in 2016 after working in the public health sector.
Her time with NSW Health and NSW Kids Health opened Lauren’s eyes to the prevalence and diversity of communication difficulties, the opportunity to improve the community’s understanding of the speech pathology profession and provide meaningful employment opportunities for other professionals.
In a short period of time Lauren has grown her practice from a one-woman show to a thriving business with Speech Pathologists, Client Experience Officers, and an executive team working from two centres strategically located in Lake Macquarie, and Newcastle.
Lauren is driven to set a high standard of service and ensures the business is financially and ethically sustainable. She endeavours to provide a place where everyone can grow – children, families, her team, and the community and is achieving this through her unique approach to creating a culture of care.
As a Hanen Certified Speech Pathologist, Lauren loves educating parents and other professionals and has extensive experience in conducting the It Takes Two to Talk, Target Word, More Than Words, Learning Language and Loving It programs, and Teacher Talk series. She has also completed further consortium training in the Lidcombe Program – Treatment Program for Preschool Stuttering.
Lauren has been a judge of the Speech Pathology Book of the Year competition (0-3 years category) since 2014. She has regularly been invited to provide education sessions to various community groups and early childhood centres, and even created a podcast called Growing Up with A Growing Understanding to help families understand and access essential services.
As a mum of two busy and gorgeous children, Lauren appreciates the need for timely, flexible and family friendly services and delights in providing support, education and quality care.
I am really passionate about helping children to be able to communicate and to be the best versions of themselves, as well as working with and supporting families to help their child to grow their communication skills.
I feel so fortunate to work with such amazing, experienced and caring speech pathologists everyday. I am proud to have established a high quality service that is accessible in our local Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Port Stephens area.
