Starting school is an exciting milestone, and Skilled for School is designed to help children build the communication, confidence, and early literacy skills they need to make a positive transition into the classroom.
Designed for children aged 4-6 years who are preparing to start school the following year, this term-based program provides a supportive small-group environment where children can practise the skills they’ll use every day at school. Led by our experienced speech pathologists, each session combines purposeful learning with fun, interactive activities that encourage participation, curiosity, and connection.
Children will develop confidence in expressing themselves, sharing ideas, following classroom routines, and interacting with peers, while building the language and literacy foundations that support successful learning. Through games, stories, role play, and hands-on activities, participants will have opportunities to practise new skills in a safe and encouraging environment.
This program is NDIS approved and delivered as a Program of Support. It will help your child develop the following skills:
- Self-expression and confidence – sharing ideas, asking questions, and participating in group discussions.
- Early literacy skills – recognising letters, developing phonological awareness, and building confidence with reading and writing, including writing their name.
- Storytelling and narrative skills – organising thoughts, sequencing events, and sharing news and experiences.
- Listening and comprehension – following multi-step instructions and participating in classroom-style activities.
- Social communication – taking turns, cooperating with peers, and building friendships.
- School readiness skills – developing independence, self-advocacy, and confidence for the transition to school.
Each session provides meaningful opportunities for children to build the communication, language, and social skills that help them feel confident, capable, and ready to thrive as they begin their school journey.
