About Jo Nelson
Jo grew up in Newcastle and graduated with a Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours) from the University of Newcastle.
Jo worked in private practice within the Coffs Harbour area for the past 3 ½ years and has joined A Growing Understanding after returning to Lake Macquarie to be closer to family.
She loves having fun with her approach to therapy, and is passionate about working with children to help them communicate confidently, no matter what their challenge may be.
I grew up knowing I wanted to work in a job that helped people – I also knew I was no good at dealing with blood and guts! Speech Pathology, particularly working with kids, allows me to set clients up for success in life and help them meet their potential. I love spending the work week supporting kids and their families, seeing them progress, and knowing that no two days will be the same!
I have followed the A Growing Understanding team on social media for several years now and love that the staff all seem very friendly and supportive. They also are committed to ongoing professional development and advocacy for the Speech Pathology profession.

“The assumption that a child who cannot communicate has nothing to say is as patently ridiculous as assuming an adult without a car has nowhere to go.”
