Ava Schasser (She/Her)
Meet Our Speech Pathologist Ava Schasser
Ava Schasser is a dedicated Speech Pathologist with a strong passion for supporting children to feel heard, understood, and confident in their communication. Originally from the Central Coast, Ava brings a warm, child-centred approach to her work and is committed to making speech pathology a safe, positive, and engaging part of each child’s week.
Ava was awarded a College Medal from the College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing in recognition of her outstanding academic achievement across the duration of her Speech Pathology degree. This is a reflection of both her commitment to excellence and her strong clinical knowledge. She has a particular interest in early language development, supporting children through play-based and naturalistic approaches, and using strategies such as visual supports and Key Word Sign to build communication in meaningful, everyday ways.
Ava plans therapy sessions that are creative, motivating, and responsive to each child’s individual strengths, interests, and needs. Her goal is to help children actively participate, build confidence, and develop communication skills that carry over into everyday life. She understands how busy family life can be and aims to provide practical, achievable support that fits naturally into routines at home, in education settings, and in the community.
Building strong, two-way relationships with families is one of Ava’s favourite parts of being a speech pathologist. She values learning from families about their child and works collaboratively to share evidence-based strategies that support communication across settings. Her approach is flexible, thoughtful, and grounded in the belief that every child deserves to feel confident, capable, and connected.
I love working as a Speech Pathologist because it is a privilege to walk alongside children and families on their communication journey, supporting children to be heard and confident communicating in their world.
I have always had a passion for lifelong learning, and this innate love for growing my clinical knowledge is supported and valued here at A Growing Understanding.
An 8.30pm bedtime!
Worst Case Scenario or Rummikub. Whenever I go away, I am always the one bringing games!
This is hard to pick, but I did go through a big Nicholas Sparks phase.
Meet The Parents or Escape Plan – very different types of movies, but both so underrated.
Hmm, above anything, probably my home! I am very much a home body.

I will look up the endings of movies instead of finishing watching.
