Alysha Johnson Speech Pathologist

Alysha Johnson (She/Her)

Speech Pathologist & Group Program Coordinator

Meet Our Speech Pathologist Alysha Johnson

Alysha Johnson graduated with a Bachelor of Speech Pathology in 2019 and brings a thoughtful, client-focused approach to her role as a Speech Pathologist and Group Program Coordinator at A Growing Understanding. Her early passion for helping others led her to pursue a career in speech pathology, where she values the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and their families.

Prior to joining the team, Alysha spent seven years working in a private practice in Sydney, gaining extensive experience supporting children with a wide range of communication needs. During this time, she developed a strong appreciation for client-led, family-centred practice, recognising the importance of working closely with families to understand each child’s strengths, interests, and goals.

Alysha has particular clinical interests in early language development, school-age language skills, comprehension and written expression, and functional communication for adolescents. She is also passionate about creating engaging group therapy experiences, where children can practise communication and social skills in supportive, interactive environments.

With a strong appreciation for neurodiversity-affirming practice, Alysha incorporates children’s interests into therapy to create sessions that are motivating, enjoyable, and meaningful. She works collaboratively with families, educators, and other allied health professionals to ensure therapy goals are supported across environments and embedded into everyday life.

I love being able to develop such close bonds with my clients (and their families) and watching their personalities begin to shine as their communication skills increase.

I value the team culture and flexibility that is offered.

Clueless

Tough question!  My Grandad’s farm and Queenstown, New Zealand.

“The best is yet to come” and “nothing changes if nothing changes”

As a child I had some weird and whacky accidents, including being run over by a camel and getting a lamp stuck in my foot.

Alysha's areas of interest:

Early language, primary school language development, reading comprehension and written expression, Gestalt Language Processing, supporting neurodivergent children and functional communication in adolescents.
