Skids and Giggles Toileting Group

Skids and Giggles Toilet Training

Flush away toileting troubles with Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy support!

Pee-fecting your child's toileting skills

We know that not every flush is the sound of success and that there are plenty of bumps, leaks and skids on the toilet training road. That is why we have joined with MoveAbout Therapy Services to present Skids and Giggles Toilet Training. This group program is designed to help you and your preschool-aged child flush away your toileting woes and hit the mark in the bathroom.

Presented by a Speech Pathologist from A Growing Understanding and an Occupational Therapist from MoveAbout Therapy Services, you and your child will participate in a focused program designed to help with:

  • Body awareness including understanding body signals and positioning for toileting success
  • Language around toileting and understanding concepts like wet versus dry, sit versus stand
  • Sequencing associated with toileting ie. what to do and when
  • Setting up the bathroom for toileting success
  • Communicating our needs and celebrating goals

This group program is ideal for children aged 4 to 5 years.

Combining an Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology approach, the activities presented over a focused period are designed to support both parents and children in your toilet training journey (skids, bumps and flushing successes included).

The program will kick off with an online parent education session, with the following covered across the focused period:

  • Body awareness skills required for toileting
  • Regulation strategies to assist with toileting
  • Following directions and sequencing of the toileting routine
  • Prepositions and concepts required for toileting: in, out, behind, on and off
  • Teaching of wet and dry for toileting
  • Body positioning for successful toileting
  • Functional set up of the body and bathroom
  • Receptive language concepts: clean and dirty, sit and stand, tall and short, clean and dirty
  • Physical skills required for reaching and wiping as well as folding and holding toileting paper
  • Fine motor skills associated with dressing and undressing
  • Importance of routine and consistency with toileting.
  • Discussion around rewards
  • Addressing regression of skills
  • Confidence in communicating when I need to go to the toilet and the ways I can complete this.

Parents are required to be active participants in this group and will be provided with valuable information during each session.

This program includes an initial parent/carer education session online. During this 60 minute session, the Speech Pathologist and Occupational Therapist running the program will provide an introduction and educational information to kick start this learning journey.

Please note all group programs align with our COVID-19 Safety Plan and ensure the health and wellbeing of all attendees and staff members.

This group will be limited to a maximum of six (6) children and two staff members. All attendees are required to follow our safety measures.

The next Skids and Giggles will run as a ‘focused program’ across one week during the next school holidays. Dates and times to be confirmed.

The cost is $170 per session, over 6 sessions, including a parent session (total $1020). Families must commit to the full program.

Standard short-notice cancellation rules do not apply to Programs of Support. The full fee will be charged each week regardless of attendance, unless the participant formally withdraws from the program.

If you’re unable to attend one of the scheduled sessions within the program, we will offer an alternative service to ensure your child continues to make progress toward their goals. This may include home resources, a phone consultation, or an online session, depending on what is most appropriate for the session’s focus and your child’s needs.
