Combining an Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology approach, the activities presented over a focused period are designed to support both parents and children in your toilet training journey (skids, bumps and flushing successes included).
The program will kick off with an online parent education session, with the following covered across the focused period:
- Body awareness skills required for toileting
- Regulation strategies to assist with toileting
- Following directions and sequencing of the toileting routine
- Prepositions and concepts required for toileting: in, out, behind, on and off
- Teaching of wet and dry for toileting
- Body positioning for successful toileting
- Functional set up of the body and bathroom
- Receptive language concepts: clean and dirty, sit and stand, tall and short, clean and dirty
- Physical skills required for reaching and wiping as well as folding and holding toileting paper
- Fine motor skills associated with dressing and undressing
- Importance of routine and consistency with toileting.
- Discussion around rewards
- Addressing regression of skills
- Confidence in communicating when I need to go to the toilet and the ways I can complete this.
Parents are required to be active participants in this group and will be provided with valuable information during each session.
This program includes an initial parent/carer education session online. During this 60 minute session, the Speech Pathologist and Occupational Therapist running the program will provide an introduction and educational information to kick start this learning journey.
Please note all group programs align with our COVID-19 Safety Plan and ensure the health and wellbeing of all attendees and staff members.
This group will be limited to a maximum of six (6) children and two staff members. All attendees are required to follow our safety measures.
