Practical strategies you can use to help your child develop language skills.

The Hanen It Takes Two to Talk program will provide you with practical and applicable skills to help you become your child’s most important language teacher.

You’ll discover simple things you can do during everyday activities like meal time, story time and bath time to create enjoyable learning opportunities for your child.

The program is NDIS approved, and will show you how to:

  • Recognise your child’s stage and style of communication so that you know which steps to take next
  • Identify what motivates your child to interact with you so you’ll know how to get conversations started
  • Adjust everyday routines to help your child take turns and keep interactions going
  • Follow your child’s lead to build their confidence and encourage them to communicate
  • Add language to interactions with your child to help them understand language and then use it when they are ready
  • Tweak the way you play and read books with your child to help them learn language
  • Change the way you speak to your child so that they will understand and learn new words

Over a 13-week period, Lauren Haskins, our Practice Director, will guide you through the Hanen It Takes Two to Talk program, during which you will have a chance to practice and discuss each strategy you learn.

The program includes:

  • 8 training sessions for parents in small, personalised groups
  • A pre-program consultation for you and your child with one of our speech pathologists
  • Three individual visits for you and your child with the speech pathologist in which you are videotaped while practicing strategies to help your child achieve specific communication goals. You and the speech pathologist then watch the videotaped interaction to “see” what’s helping your child and what you can modify to help even more.

This evidence-based program has been proven to have positive effects on the communication development of young children (0 – 5 years). If you would like to experience a positive change in your communication experiences with your child, complete the following enquiry form, or call us on 02 4044 1122.

The Hanen It Takes Two Talk program will commence on Thursday 1 August, 2019 from 10.00am to 1.00pm.

HIGH FIVE ✋🏻 Abbigail!! You have been working so hard on your ‘r’ sounds (it’s not easy to hear the difference between ‘r’ and ‘w’)! You are such a joy to work with and I loved the laughs we shared during our practise session today!
Also- Abbi shared the StorySign Android app with us today! This clever app scans the words in books and translates into signs to hearing-impaired children! Check it out! ~ Lauren

🎶🎵🎶Did you know that singing, including nursery rhymes and other ‘finger play’ games can be a wonderful way to interact with your child with ASD? These activities can encourage your child’s turn taking skills and requesting skills - essential for building early social skills. Today we had a happy time with Miss C, her mother and her teddies singing ‘Round and Round the Garden’.

What was your favourite nursery rhyme/finger play game as a child? ~Melissa 🙂
